For those of you not familiar with mid-west US geography, Minnesota is the source of the Mighty Mississippi River. As it winds through the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul the river passes through the only gorge on it's entire length. A local non-profit organization, Friends of the Mississippi River, organizes a yearly event called the Mississippi River Challenge, a 44 mile, two-day paddle down this stretch of the river. It takes us through varied scenery and through the hearts of both cities. It is a unique trip, and one that I have enjoyed many times. Please join me on my 2010 trip and experience it for yourselves. Canoes or kayaks, camping gear (we stay overnight in a historic riverside Fort), all registration fees and minimum pledge amounts (this is, after all, a fund-raiser) are paid by us. We can provide on-water instruction for those who've never canoed or kayaked before.

In addition, we'll show you around "our" Minneapolis and St. Paul, take you up to the North Shore of Lake Superior and the port city of Duluth. A surprising and varied history from an area of the US that very few international visitors will ever see. And of course, we're only minutes away from the Mall of America -- the biggest shopping center in the USA, for those of you that have the urge to shop!

Accommodation in the St Paul area is in a hotel within walking distance of many good restaurants. We can also arrange to have you stay with local families that we know and trust. Accommodation in Duluth will be in a hotel in the center of town.
